The Ernst Mach Grants are named after the famous Austrian physicist and philosopher Ernst Mach (1838-1916). The grant program is financed by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy (BMWFW). Students and young researchers from foreign universities are invited to apply for this grant to come to Austria for a research or a study stay. Every year a board of representatives of the Austrian Ministry awards the Ernst Mach Grants based on the results of an expert examination procedure. Age limit for this grant program is 35 years at the time of the application

Ernst Mach Grant – worldwide

The Ernst Mach Grant worldwide is targeted at young researchers from all disciplines and countries (except Austria) who wish to pursue a research project in Austria.

Ernst Mach Grant for studying at an Austrian University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule)

This programme is aimed at students from non-European universities who wish to spend a semester or two at an Austrian University of Applied Sciences (‘Fachhochschule’).

Target group: undergraduates and graduates from non-European universities

Target institution: all Austrian Universities of Applied Sciences (‘Fachhochschulen’, see www.fachhochschulen.ac.at)

Duration: 4 to 10 months

Age limit: 35 years

Closing date for applications: online application is available from October to March 1st of the following year

Ernst Mach Follow-Up Grant

The Ernst Mach Follow-Up Grant is aimed at postdocs from non-European developing countries who are former OeAD scholarship holders. The grant is intended to support the applicant’s scientific carrier and to further and deepen the cooperation with Austrian higher education institutions and universities.

Target group: Post-doctoral researchers and lecturers from non-European developing countries, who research and/or teach at higher education institutions or universities and have already received a grant administered by the OeAD-GmbH in the past. At the beginning of the grant period, at least 5 years must have passed since the last funded research visit to Austria.

Duration: 1 to 3 months

Age limit: 50 years

Closing date for applications: Online applications are open from November to 1 February of the following year and from June to 1 November.

 

AREA OF STUDY OR RESEARCH: Natural Sciences, Technical Sciences, Human Medicine, Health Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities and Art.

SCHOLARSHIP VALUE:

1) Monthly grant rate: 1,150 EUR
2) Accident and health insurance, accommodation
The OeAD-GmbH will endeavour to provide accommodation (student hall of residence or flat) for recipients of grants who wish to get accommodation arranged by the OeAD. Monthly costs: 220 to 470 EUR (depending on how much comfort the recipients of grants want). An administration fee of 18 EUR per month is payable to the OeAD-GmbH for arranging accommodation. The costs for insurance and accommodation have to be paid out of the grant by the recipient of the grant. 4) Scholarship holders will receive a travel costs subsidy of 1.000 EUR maximum upon presentation of original documents. Travels costs to Austrian representatives outside the home country are refundable upon presentation of original documents.
